Call it the Rebirth of the Legendary Tata safari or a 7-seater harrier, it’s the kind that the market wants. The safari has some serious rivals in the segment including the Innova Crysta and XUV 500.

Tata Safari vs Innova Vs XUV 500: Engine

Tata safari engine
The new Tata safari is powered by FIAT sourced Kyrotec 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The engine makes 167bhp and 350Nm torque. 
The New XUV 500 will get an upgraded engine that will be BS6 compliant and makes more power than the previous generation. The 2.2L mHawk  will feature an electronically controlled turbocharger for better power delivery.
The Innova has a petrol option, 2.7L petrol engine that was upgraded to have Dual Variable valve timing. The engine develops 161bhp and 245N-m torque at 3800rpm.  The 2.4L diesel engine that powers the Innova Crysta is a turbocharged unit and generates 148bhp and 360N-m torque.

Transmission

Xuv 500 gear knob
The Tata safari can be had with either a six speed manual or six speed automatic transmission. The Automatic gearbox is smooth while shifting and the manual has a light clutch and a crisp gear shift can be absorbed. The new Safari will not be getting the 4WD but it is expected to be launched with 4WD.
The new XUV 500 offers a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Synchromesh torque converter gearbox with manual mode but it does not provide full control in the manual mode. The Innova is mated with a 6-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Steering, suspension and brakes

The Tata Safari suspension system is on the softer side to make your ride  more comfortable. It also gets disc brakes on all four wheels. The Crysta offers a great ride quality which makes it the king of MPV but XUV 500 has a great handling and highway stability and also a comfy ride.

Safari vs Innova Vs XUV 500: Interior

Tata safari interior
The Safari interior is luxurious and is different from the Harrier in terms of color scheme. Third row passengers also get dedicated AC vents with blower settings and USB ports for mobile charging. 
The Interior was always a shine for the XUV500 and it’s not different now. The instrument cluster has a circular multi information display in the center of the analog dials that gives a sporty feel.
The Innova Crysta interior has a complete black finish with wooden touch on the dashboard. It has an 8-inch infotainment system and large multi information display along with an engine start-stop button.

Safety
All the SUVs have standard safety features such as ABS, EBD and airbags. The Tata safari is based on the same platform as that of the harrier which got 5-star safety ratings. The Innova gets a 5-star rating in the euro NCAP and the XUV 500 gets 4-star.

Prices

Safari rear
The XUV 500 is priced the least from ₹15 Lakh to ₹19.53 Lakh among the three and offers a lot for what it is priced. The Safari is priced from ₹14.49 Lakh to ₹21.45 Lakh ex showroom and offers a similar package compared to the XUV 500. The Innova on the other hand misses out several features but is priced from ₹16.64 to ₹ 24.33 Lakh which is pretty high for what it offers.
