Safest small cars according to IIHS

IIHS facility
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a nonprofit and independent organization dedicated to reducing the losses like deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle accidents in US. Vehicles are rated for safety based on performance in several tests and good results will award the car with TOP SAFETY PICK UP + name. The cars in the list are compared to small cars only, some large vehicles with least rating might offer better safety than the safest small car. 
Rating scale used by IIHS: G-Good, A-Acceptable, M-Marginal, P-Poor.

2020 Honda Civic Coupe 2-door

Honda Civic 2-door Coupe
The Honda Civic 2-door Coupe is the safest car according to the IIHS. It has advanced safety systems such as collision mitigation braking, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control that were awarded 3 points out of 3.

The Honda Civic Hatchback and the sedan is a bit longer in length then the coupe. It does get all the safety features and collision avoidance systems.

2020 Honda Insight

The Honda insight is a 5-seater hybrid sedan. It has a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that is coupled with an electric motor combined to make 151 horsepower. The Honda Insight is based on the Honda civic but has better crash results than the civic as shown below.

2020 Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra was redesigned in 2017 and the model was tested at IIHS. The Elantra will come with a 2.0-liter engine that makes 147bhp and has all the safety features such as blind-spot collision avoidance system, Lane following assist and Rear-traffic collision-avoidance assist.

2020 Hyundai Veloster 3-door Hatchback

Hyundai Veloster
The Hyundai Veloster has two passenger side and one driver side doors which is pretty unusual. It gets a 2.0-liter engine that produces 147bhp and also a 1.6-liter turbocharged makes it more sportier by producing 201bhp. It doesn’t get any fancy collision avoidance system but it does get Hyundai’s blue link and rear parking sensors.

It does come with some basic collision avoidance systems such as smart brake support, Mazda radar cruise control and lane departure warning.

2020 Subaru Crosstrek
