All-New Hyundai i20
The Hyundai i20 is the most loved premium hatchback in India. All the generations of the i20 have seen a significant change in design, dynamics and features. The 2020 i20 (that was a mouthful!) is not an exception. With a redesigned sporty exterior and an all-new interior, it is all set to be launched in this festive season.
The new design is sharper, sportier and more aggressive-looking compared to the current model. The large cascading grill has a set of edgy LED headlamps that get LED DRL’s. The bumper itself features a triangular fog lamp housing. From the side a set of large wheels make the hatch look rather sportier, while at the back the Z-shaped brake lights give it a nice premium look.
Engine and Gearbox
The new i20 will be powered by a variety of engine-gearbox combinations. The base model will have the
1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine making 86bhp. The more exciting option will be the 1.0L turbo petrol making 120hp which will make it the most powerful hatchback in the segment. The diesel on the other hand has a 1.5L engine that makes 98hp mated to a manual gearbox. The 1.0L turbo gets a 7-speed DCT option and the 1.2L engine gets Hyundai’s 5-speed iMT
What is iMT?
If you are wondering what an iMT is, It is Hyundai’s new transmission technology which puts you in charge while shifting gears except there is no clutch!. In an AMT the gear and the clutch are both actuated by electronic actuators controlled by a TCU. In an intelligent manual transmission, only the clutch is actuated by the electronic actuator
and the gear is selected by the driver.
Infotainment System and Features
The i20 has a large central
10.25-inch touch screen that is seen in Hyundai Venue. The infotainment system comes packed with apple car play, android auto, navigation and Hyundai’s blue link. It is equipped with a 7-BOSE speaker
setup that will be first in class. It also gets a fully digital instrument cluster. It is expected to get other interior features such as a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, sunroof and also ventilated seats.
Safety and Space Utilization
EBD, projector fog lamps, emergency stop signal, driver rear view monitor, hill host assist in the 1.0L DCT are all the new safety features that are expected in the new i20. The car is now 41mm wider and 10mm longer, interior
space utilization is 25% more than the current generation. The boot space is considerably larger at 311-liter and is about 15 liter more than the previous generation.
Price and Launch
The New i20 has finally been launched and is priced competitively. The base model is priced at about ₹6.79L and the top variant is available at ₹11.17L. This might make it one of the expensive premium hatchbacks in the country but still, there might be a huge demand considering what it has to offer at the price.
